Freshwater Eel Fishing near Brisbane.
This is a new and untried area of angling in
Australia as most people try to avoid catching them .We have even
caught them on lures [quite frequently] . These eels seem to travel
up in the water in search of food and like all eels they fight
unbelievably hard. The eels in the waters we fish probably go to
ten kilos plus and according to our guide they are easy to catch
using bait. This is a new area for us but our guide assures us
that huge eels are present in large numbers and he hasn’t
let us down yet! There is virtually no angling activity for these
fish so we have very few reports and only one decent photograph
that shows a 160cm fish.
The area we fish is the same water as for the Bass fishing so the same accommodation
and transfers apply.
Many of the local rivers have substantial elver runs so a steady natural restocking
of the area obviously takes place. A pioneering expedition would, in our opinion,
produce some good to exceptional results!
