The Crystal Coast and Cape York
The Crystal coast as the locals call it
is one of the dream destinations for all anglers. Its pristine
beaches, estuaries and wilderness
provide a wonderful setting for the spectacular fishing on offer.
Flights are available into Bamaga from Cairns and you can be fishing
within a few hours of landing. Some of the species present include
Barramundi, Mangrove Jack, several types of Trevally, Saratoga,
Permit, Coral trout, Fingermark, Threadfin salmon, Jewfish, four
types of Mackerel, Tuna, Shark, sailfish and Black Marlin –the
list goes on. Permit and Snub Nosed Dart are also on the list for
the dedicated fly angler!
We can cater for specialists who wish to target certain species with particular
methods but we strongly recommend an open minded approach as on some days up
to 20 different species may be encountered and it is this diversity that makes
the Cape so exciting. Our guides have access to many locations on both sides
of the peninsula both in estuaries and around many islands so that even in
rough weather a sheltered location is available. The fishing can be spectacular
all year but sometimes the fish are almost climbing up the rod. Just before
and after the wet can be outstanding, but even outside of this time there is
always something biting. We cannot stress strongly enough how brilliant the
fishing is here. We can cater for up to twenty anglers on the Cape at any time
but a maximum of 3 anglers per boat [2 if fly fishing] is strictly applied.
Mothership option
You sleep and eat aboard one of our large ocean going ships in
air conditioned comfort and travel to remote fishing grounds
by day in purpose built guided fishing boats. Various lengths
of tour are available from 3days/2nights up to as much as a fortnight.
This is a truly outstanding way of fishing otherwise unreachable
waters and some anglers simply love being on the water 24 hours
a day. The wildlife viewing in this area is simply stunning with
Dugongs, Manta Rays, Shark, Crocodiles, Sea snakes and lots of
bird life seasonally abundant! We have a range of prices depending
on season and choice of boat but as with all our trips it pays
to book early because peak season is always very popular.
Disabled Anglers are catered for and welcomed on the Cape York
Tours.
